At New Habitat, we realize that what happens after brain injury rehabilitation not only affects the rest of the survivor’s life—it is also the beginning of the rest of life. It is that new beginning, open to all the possibilities of life, that the founders of New Habitat, themselves parents and guardians of survivors, wished for their loved ones. They wanted them to experience anew the richness, the challenge, the pleasure of life.
Through the New Habitat program, survivors explore the possibilities of their new lives. Compassionate and knowledgeable staff, in collaboration with residents, parents, guardians, and friends, support and encourage each resident to regain self-direction and enjoyment in life. Activities foster personal growth, psychological and physical healing, socialization, creativity, and fun creating a balance between community life and individual interests.
New Habitat, Inc. is a parent and guardian-formed non-profit organization established to develop a residence for persons with acquired brain injury or other neurological or psychiatric disorders who require a 24-hour supervised living environment. The residence has been established as a community which the residents experience as their own home. It is a place of possibilities, not limitations. New Habitat also welcomes and values the involvement of family members, guardians and volunteers.
