The program at New Habitat is the key for survivors to explore the possibilities of their new lives.
New Habitat's location in metropolitan Boston offers residents a broad range of resources, whether medical and therapeutic, educational, vocational, social, cultural or recreational.
All activities follow the lead of the residents themselves. Compassionate and knowledgeable staff work as part of a team in collaboration with residents, parents, guardians, friends, and volunteers, to support and encourage each resident in regaining self-direction, independence, and enjoyment in life. A variety of individual and group events fosters personal growth, psychological and physical healing, socialization, creativity, and fun--creating a balance of community spirit with critical attention to individual needs, interests, and past experience.
All residents are provided with room and board, utilities, and housekeeping services. With the support of 24-hour staff, each resident's independent living skills are strengthened through successful participation in everyday activities such as meal planning and preparation, grocery shopping, recreational activities and personal and social skills. Assistance and transportation are provided for medical and other appointments. Beside these services included in the fee, there are optional opportunities for art and music therapy, exercise programs, computer training, job training. Activities in the community complement the rhythm of in-house activities, providing individualized paths of growth to each resident. Families/guardians meet regularly with the program director to review the individualized program.
